Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Mouse PS/2 Fedora Core 3

i have a problem to make my PS/2 mouse work... on laptop Compaq Evo N115 in Fedora 3.
i have tried anything, it just seems to be impossible to fix this problem.
it is obviously because of the conflict with the touchpad, which works fine.
this is my xorg.conf :

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
	Identifier "single head configuration"
	Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
	InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
	InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
	InputDevice "Synaptics" "AlwaysCore"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier "Mouse0"
	Driver "mouse"
	Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
	Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
	Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
	Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier "Synaptics"
	Driver "synaptics"
	Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
	Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
	Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
EndSection
i also tried to delete all synaptics' lines from xorg but it did not make any difference.

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
	Identifier "single head configuration"
	Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
	InputDevice "Mouse0" "AlwaysCore"
	InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier "Mouse0"
	Driver "mouse"
	Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
	Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
	Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
	Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
EndSection
Thank You very much for any hint !

I have a laptop with a synaptics touchpad and only one device can be used at a time, both in Linux and Windows. The touchpad is PS/2 (there is no connector, but that's how it works). Maybe some settings can be changed in the BIOS, to allow for two devices?
P.S. The two sections in your config file changes are useless, both devices you created point to /dev/input/mice. Even if you can make an external mouse work, you won't be able to distinguish it from the touchpad.
