Just recently I've been messing with Linux more and more, trying to get a little more accustomed to it since I am new and trying to take the whole plunge.
My first experience was getting Direcway to work with it, with a DW4000 modem.
Now, after I have that all cleared up, I get a new problem to try and fix.
I was in the Mandrake Control Center and wanted to make my three button mouse work. It was already set to USB mouse with Wheel, so I changed it to ps/2 something or another, and the changes didn't take (yes I did it all as root btw). So I think nothing of it.
Restart and get back on it today, and the mouse won't work. Finally through the keyboard I got the number pad to work as the mouse to justify it right now. I went back in the Mandrake Control Center and tried to change it. It is still set to USB mouse with wheel, and if I try to change it to anything else the settings won't take, and if I recheck USB mouse with wheel it does no good either.
Next I tried running xf86config hoping it could do something of good, and came out with no luck again.
Then looked at the xf86config file to see if it just didn't take, and all the settings in there seem okay..
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it up and back to how it was, mouse wise?
Wow, got Direcway to work without paying the extra money for a 4020 modem.. impressive.
Try deleting all your mouse settings from the XF86Config file...
and possibly, not sure you did this or not.
Check to see if you have both a XF86Config, and an XF86Config-4?
If you have more than one, edit/delete mouse settings in all of them.
It should be able to autodetect your mouse on startup then?
I'll have to try that. I saw that I had both of them, and was wondering if that was a fluke. There's also the backups.. I think I'll leave those be though.. lol
And, I was impressed I was able to get direcway to work with it also, and not have to get a 4020 or the new 6000's that are coming out soon (or maybe already out, now?) http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...=sat~mode=flat
link about the new dw6000 coming out, if you're interested.
Should be posting back in about 10 minutes, considering a restart and getting back on linux. dual boots are good stuff.
Well.. it just randomly started working for some reason, only thing is, there's no scroll wheel. I can probably fix that in xf86config (I hope, any ideas?).
about direcway and linux. It doesn't go as fast becasue of some issues with it, but it's not unbearable. If you can find someone with a good connection to set up a proxy you're in business. I found a few free ones online that're working fine so far, and speeds aren't unbearable, sometimes a little more slow than I'd like, though.
