Mouse problem

Hi I was wondering if someone could help please.
After a restart my mouse no longer works, the cursor is there but it wont move. There is no light flickering or anything.
Ive checked /var/log/messages and cant see anything and im working through ssh so cant use KDE to help.
The machine hasnt gone under any changes lately. The mouse was USB but ive even tried a ps2 one and its the same.
I inherited this distro so I really am a newbie. Can anyone help please?

Ok i found the problem.
Linux could see the usb but nothing worked when attached.
I cleared the CMOS redid my settings and it worked.
Seems when i had a drive containing *cough* windoze previous to it happening it powered down the USB ports.
Hope this helps someone else, as i was totally baffled.
