Angry Mouse Pointer Vanishes

I have installe Redhat 8.0 on my old Compaq Armada 1750 and the process went reasonably well.

However, with my USB mouse plugged in and when I am not using the keyboard suddenly the screen turn black and come back once I press return. BUT: The mouse pointer is invisible after this exercise. The mouse still works and objects under the "invisible" mouse pointer still change and can be clicked on. Can somebody help me with this strange phenomia?

PS: I am a computer dummy and only simple descriptions will work (for now)
