mouse pointer blinking on/off with X 6.8.2 and S3 UniChrome

HI all-

I recently got the 3D direct rendering to work for my Averatec 3250 laptop's factory video card, but the mouse pointer is now acting up...

it blinks off/on about once every 2 seconds, and whatever I'm doing then pauses (e.g. moving/resizing a window) until the pointer blinks back on...

xscreensaver also affected: pauses at same interval as pointer blink...

I'm running FC4 with kernel 2.6.17-1.2139, 1GB RAM, AMD Athlon XP-M 1.67 GHz, with VIA S3 UniChrome vid card

Btw, this is a hardware question, right?

Thanks all!
