Mouse Pointer.
 

I am new to Linux and only have XP Pro as a comparison.

With Pro, the movement of the Mouse pointer is really smooth, but with Linux I find that it is "jumpy", and this makes it difficult at times to select an object.

Is this normal, or could it be improved?

I have the Pointer Acceleration set at 7x, and the Pointer Threshold is set at 1 Pixel.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

There is a tradeoff between how fast the pointer moves across the screen and how easy it is to handle. I suggest that you play around with the pointer parameters until you find settings that you like.

I was using Mandrake and no matter what I tried there was no improvement.

I finally removed it and installed Red Hat, and the problem went away.

Do you use the right protocol for you mice?
Some protocols has a variety of options aswell. F.i. resolution.
I think some of these options can get you on track with the problems.

I have the same problem, and it drives me NUTS. Windows does not use this mouse acceleration crap at all, and thats why it does have a smooth movement.

If someone happens to know how to fix it (like, disable...) on all distros please let me know too.

Perhaps here's how I've been doing so far should you be interested: 60% acceleration, 100% sensitivity (set in gnome).

SAME PROBLEM HERE!

my usb mouse doesn't click rite when in X ... tried both the ps2 and usb types with mouseconfig but same result..
the cursor doesnt properly grab the windows when I try to drag them and my clicks dont really work fine .. I click like 4 times sometime and so on....
objects difficult to select the buttons dont really click on the first time...
any suggestions ?
how do we solve it ?
