Mouse loses functionality using text field, then recovers with use of touchpad or reboot

When copy/pasting into a text field using the mouse, it'll lose functionality in
the left button. It's stuck in a copy mode, highlighting text as I move the mouse.

But then, I can bring it back to normal function by merely moving my finger on the laptop's
touchpad for a second or two.

I've played with the mouse and touchpad settings to try to affect this, but nothing helps, so
far.

This is Mint 17.3 using KDE. The mouse is a Dynex wireless. It's an HP Envy 17 inch
laptop with nVidia/intel chips.

Any ideas/suggestions? This is quite annoying.

Thanks!

Hi...

Welcome to the forum

Can this issue be duplicated using another mouse, wired or wireless?

Regards...

Use another mouse device and see if it has issues. I had issues kind of like that on my hp stream 11 when it was new. A 3.19+ kernel fixed it though. And those patches have been backported to debian stable/jessie's 3.16 kernel. Not quite like that actually, clicking with the touchpad would put X in a odd state that affected future clicking. Using an external mouse had no issues at all. Upgrading kernels fixed it ultimately, but 3.18 was the newest available when the laptop was new. And the fix didn't exist until 3.19.
