mouse is choppy, unresponsive

Ok, for the past few months or so, my mouse has been acting kind of strange. It would be acting just fine but would just hang up for about 3 seconds every now and then, and then return to normal. I didn't worry too much about it.

I got home from work today, having had my system up the entire day, and it's doing something now that I've never seen it do before. Movement is really choppy and clicking on an item takes way longer than it should to get a reaction. Otherwise, system performance is normal: just the mouse is slow. The mouse is your standard cheap-o Logitech optical model. It's worked just fine on this system for the past 2 years up till now. What's up? Is it just time for me to buy a new mouse?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have (can you borrow) another mouse to test?

Other things to try:

If it has one of those USB/psaux adaptors you could try USB if currently psaux or vice-versa.

You could try it on another computer, or even with windows if you have it installed.

In my experience the problem is usually with the mouse. I have a drawer full of failed mice (I'm sure I will eventually find a use for them )

I would also think that it's probably the mouse.

I don't think logitech are all the're cracked up to be, frankly. Most of the logitech products I've had have screwed up after a couple of years.
