Mouse dies Intermittently then needs areboot to fix, 2.4 and 2.6

Well, i got 2.6.9 working finally, only to find out that as usual my mouse wasn't workign as planned, 2 main problems

the main problem i experienct is that a random time after i boot i find that my mouose has died, completely,

sometimes it comes back after switchign a few windows, sometimes i only need restart x, a lot of the time it needs a full reboot!

I'm using a presario 2111ea, slackware ten with a 2.69 kernel, latest version of x, latest synaptic touchpad drivers

the same happend using the bareacpi kernel on slakc 10 before i upgraded

If i ctl+alt+f1 to the console i see occasionally (even after the mosue has died) a message saying "Synaptics Deviceoff Called" and the same but device on. the mosue hwoever remains un responsive.

Any ideas? any more info needed?

I did have the idea that my laptop has been diaasembled before (upgrade sleected parts,) and now the indicator LED for the touchpad beign on or off does nto work, and it seems neither doesthe power switch, on windows or on linux, the pad seems permantently on, with no indicator. Howecver i do not know how this happened.

The other problem is that of sensitivity (2.6 kernel only) As in if i place my finger on the touchpad and holkd it still the cursor will wovble about aroudn a square inch of space on the screen, my pad is set up as said i nthe synaptics readme.

Could anyoen shed a bit of light on any of these problems? I may now have an excuse to learn to do most things by keyboard command alone, but i can;t do that for all things.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.
