Mouse and network not detected when installing linux mint 16

Hey guys got a quick problem, when i go to boot into linux mint from a live cd (and some other distros such as mageia) i notice my mouse is not usable (it wont move no matter which usb mouse i use or what port its in) but on others, slax or knoppix it everything works out of the box. I would like to be using linux mint again but no mouse is a serious problem.

without knowing what your hardware is , we really can not help

almost all "mice" should just work
unless they are 10+ year old parallel port "wireless"

I'd make a very wild guess that your usb chip isn't supported for some reason. Usually you don't need to set legacy in bios but might switch it. Could be some timing issue. On Knoppix you might notice a saying like waiting for usb to settle.

See what lsusb says and maybe other hardware info like lspci.

I found some info regarding that my gigabyte 970a-ds3p motherboard may be the issue. I have yet to resolve this but found my front usbs do work with all distros
