i am running red hat 8.0, and im trying to mount a partition that is ntfs
im in gnome, and i go to KDiskfree, and when i try to mount the partition hda5 (win xp partition) it says i have to be loged in as root. so i su to root, and try to run mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/win (/mnt/win is also a valid dir).

this is the error as root
[root@115 downloaded]# mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/windows
mount: fs type ntfs not supported by kernel

so what i tried to do was look for ntfs support in the packages section, but it gets past reading headers of rpms then it disapears.

stumped again,

ok i downloaded the correct rpm for my kernel 9 im using kernel ver. 2.4.20-18.8) and I run the rpm as root, and the install gives me no errors. but when i type /sbin/modprobe ntfs i get the cannot locate module ntfs, so i followed the web sites directions, and ran /sbin/depmod -a, then ran /sbin/modprobe ntfs, but it still gives me the cannot find module ntfs error.
step 2 says for me to download the .o file, and i renamed it to ntfs.o and place it in the //sbin/modprobe ntfs, and then ran /sbin/depmod -a, and then /sbin/modprobe nts, but i still get the cannot locate module ntfs.

any thoughts?
