For as far as i know, Microsoft still hasnt given all the details on its NTFS file system.
Because of that little annoyance, linux NTFS support is still quite low.

Now, its IS possible to read NTFS in linux
The linux NTFS project has a few drivers that allow to read NTFS in linux. The biggest problem is that you cant really write to it. Because the full information on the system is not open to the public yet, its damn hard to make a driver that writes to NTFS without ruining the entire file system, leaving you with a beatifull useless chunck of data, that where previously your files

A little workaround:
Personnally i use Dual Boot, and because i still want data to be able to flow between the systems, i created a little 2 gig FAT32 partition. since both Linux and Windows can read and write to it, it can be used to transfer data around the partitions. Its not perfect, but it wotks
