Mounting my external hard drive...
 

Good day to all @ LQ!!
I am using Mandrake 10.1 on my laptop. I am trying to access my external hard drive. On my desk top an icon is there saying TOSHIBA MK... and when i right click it and select mount it gives me this error message,

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1,
or too many mounted file systems
Please check that the disk is entered correctly.

Guys, what exactly should i do to mount a device cuz i have been trying to do many things as said in the wesites.
I would appriciate for any help on this matter...

Maybe you should check the /etc/fstab file to check what options are set for your external HDD.

You can mount a device from the prompt by:

EG: mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/externalhdd

Other tags and options may be included as necessary.

DoubleOTeC : i did look into the fstab file and i recognized where my external hard drive was mounted,as shown below

i did access as root, and when i had mounted it i tried to access the hard drive in GUI, and i tried to brows mouse clicking the icon on my desktop which shows my external HDD and it have me this error message

Could not enter folder /mnt/removable

then i tried to access it via KwickDisk and it gave me this error message

i checked the files and permissions when i accessed it through the terminal and it gave me
dr-x------ /for all the files.

I managed to access the external hard drive but now i would like to use a gui file manager to brows the files cuz the contents are huge and i'd like to see them more clearly.
Would you please help me on this matter...

I suspect having mounted it as root, your were unable to access it as a user using the GUI.

Can you mount it as yourself?

Boot failure with new attached HDD
 

Dear all, I've got a problem:
I have one ATA HDD that has been installed Linux on it before (called "old HDD"). Now, I need to take out some data from this "old HDD" but can't boot it up in the network because of some particular reasons. I've attached this "old HDD" to a Fedora2 PC and the PC cannot boot up due to the confusion of fstab infomation of the two HDDs. Please help me, how to solve this problem?

Sorry, finally it can boot up, but I get another problem: cannot create any folder anywhere due to error of "Read-only File system" :-0

does "bad superblock" mean that its only root accessible? if so is it a wise solution to give the normal user the root privileges ( will the normal user become an alias kind of thing of root ?)
Or may be the file system in my External hard drive is NTFS file type...( can this be the reason?)
Then why cant i access the files using KwikDisk like i access the windows partition :(
Is there any wise ideas that i can try doing?

Is the disk NTFS?

The mount error seems to disagree with it being vfat.

DoubleOTeC: Thx anyway buddy. I cant afford to format it in Fat32...:), once i get a dvd burner then i would take time in fitting it all. Thanx again.
