In your phone, go to:
- USB Settings
- Select External Memory

then attach your phone to USB,
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/something
or try
mount /dev/sda /mnt/something

Let me know if it works
Bye

got the V3xx mounted!

sblantipodi, thanks for your reply. I was trying the commands you asked me to try when I had trouble mounting the phone. However, I've solved the problem. The answer is that the V3xx does need a SD card installed before it can be mounted (only the SD memory is mounted, not the internal phone memory). Once I installed the 2 gig card, Kubuntu automatically recognized and mounted the SD memory as a USB removable drive.

Now I'm going to create some custom ringtones with Audacity. Yay, I love linux/open source!

Ok, now you should learn how to recompile your kernel.
After that you need to insert this in your
~/linux/drivers/usb/storage/unusual_devs.h file

UNUSUAL_DEV( 0x22b8, 0x4810, 0x0001, 0x0001,
"Motorola",
"V",
US_SC_DEVICE, US_PR_DEVICE, NULL,
US_FL_FIX_CAPACITY | US_FL_FIX_INQUIRY | US_FL_IGNORE_RESIDUE ),

recompile the kernel and have fun
