I am a brand newbie, and I've downloaded and installed College Linux v. 2.5

Much of it works including internet access, and the Editing applications. However, I have a problem in mounting the DVD and the CD-RW drive in my 5-yr old Compaq 100 series. The FDD mounted easily.

Here is my /etc/fstab file:

/dev/hda6 / ext3 rw 0 0
none /proc proc rw 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs rw 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts rw 0 0
/dev/hda6 /mnt/hda6 ext3 rw 0 0
none /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs rw 0 0

Any advice would be appreciated, but I'm just learning the language so I need to have it pretty simple.

Can you post the output from:
dmesg | grep cd
uname -a

I can, but not for a couple of weeks because of travel. Thanks for the suggestions.
