Motorola Surfboard SB5101 USB Cable Modem
Hi,
I have tried without any success to configure the Motorola Surfboard SB5101 USB Cable Modem on linux (Mandrake 10.1). Can anyone offer any help? The network configuration does not seem to recognise it. Thanks, Avance |
did you get it working yet?
i know you'll hate to hear this (i always do), but i have one (5100) and it works in lin all the time. i sure hope you have your firewall up, because this gateway (modem) does NOT have ANY protection!! it does have automatic dhcp (so make sure you check that when you set up networking). the modem is a piece of junk other than that (ie not very hackable, unless you are trying to break into it from ouside :( good luck. ps. i forgot, make sure you set up networking for ethernet (usb is a pain, and SLOWER). if i remember, mandy asks you what type of network (internet) connection that you have-- so answer: Ethernet (not cable).. or tho i may be wrong, so try both (seperately of course). |

what do you mean by 'loop' sites (access?). if your dns is not working, then make sure you have the proper dns ip addresses setup (ie. your isp's.. or whatever dns server (service) you like). this would be done in your os software (networking area).. not the modem. give more info on your system (os)if you are still stuck. I just got another one of these (old) modems recently, and they still are accepted (by comcast anyway) even tho the version is quite low and old.

the newer cable modems support both ethernet and usb connects AT-THE-TIME.. at least that is what mine says.. but I have not tested it out to verify. You could also of course try setting up a router, where you can then share several computers with the one internet connection. good luck, lettuce know :)
