motherboard recently changed! suse 8.0

Hi, hope somebody may help me.
I have a machine running suse 8.0 (dual PIII CPU), but some days ago the motherboard stop working, so I try to figure out how to solve the problem, I was thinking to replace the old motherboard with another one of the same model, but can't find it, so I buy a new model of motherboard (uses a Xeon CPU), and of course I can't format my HD because there are several DB and other information.
So i just attach the HD to the new motherboard and when the machine begins with the boot sequence, suddenly it hangs up.

What should I do?

Maybe if I can check the boot log, I could figure out where the HW hangs, but i can't get into the system.

Any help it's really appreciated!!

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
When it hangs does it give you any error messages or say anything?
If it says something about can't find root make sure that your hard drives are in the same master and slave position as they were before you installed the new motherboard, that is if you have more than one hard drive.
Also, seeing as you are using a new cpu make sure that the kernel that you are using to boot supports the new cpu, as it may be limited to only p3s or somethine like that. I don't know much about SUSE but see if you can boot into it using a kernel on one of the install cds or soemthing like that.
Good luck.
