Motherboard Problem
I have a Super P4DC6+ / P4DCE+ motherboard.
I get the error: Code:
CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 30 XX XX XX XX GUID: FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF Explanations? Fixes? |
It's trying to boot off the network and then from a local bootable device, which it doesn't find.
Is the hard drive listed in the BIOS, if so you may have to adjust the boot sequence/settings. If the drive is not listed, check all cable connections from it to the motherboard and make sure the're tight. If they are all connected, is the drive making clicking noises? If so, then the drive has a hardware failure. The drive worked before for your cousin? Did you swap the drive from your cousin's computer to yours? Was the drive reformatted with a new Ubuntu install for your computer? Or is it the same Ubuntu install when the hard drive was in your cousin's computer? I don't quite understand your explanation. |
The hard drive was empty when my cousin sent it. I installed Ubuntu on it using a different machine. I plugged it in a few days ago and it worked flawlessly in my computer. I can't really tell if its read in the BIOS, cause my monitor is berserk (see my other thread). The drive is new and doesn't click. I will check the cables.

Is there a chance the CMOS battery could be just a little dead and causing problems as a result?
|
A weak CMOS battery is possible, but my experience with weak CMOS batteries is that the computer wouldn't even boot.
I once worked on a Dell Optiplex that had a defective CD drive which was interfering with the hard drive controller, thus making the hard drive not appear. It was weird and I don't really understand why it did that. After I disconnected the CD drive IDE cable, the problem went away. I replaced the CD drive and everything was OK. You might have something similar going on. |
