Motherboard layout map

I understand, that all motherboard manufacturers put a map image of the layout of their motherboards on the onboard rom.Can anyone advise how to access and look at this?

Is there any 3rd person software which wud allow this?

I have no idea, but why look at it? You can look at the manual.

Funny line by a comedian when someone said "Jesus loves you." to him:

I'm sure he does but why did he tell YOU?

I'm not aware of any "layout map" burned into the mobo, but I'm not sure what potential security issues there would be, since all your data lives on the hard drive. The physical placement of your mobo components doesn't seem important, especially since pretty much all manufacturers post a great deal of info about their mobos online. To illustrate, my main PC uses an Intel D845PEBT2 mobo, but I don't see how any of this would pose a security issue. Can you elaborate on your question? -- J.W.

It is an issue of principle. I shud know all info that is on my computer. If there is some info.on the mobo, then as the owner of my local PC, I shud know abt it. Do u see my point of view? I think this is the point which most buyers of any product would like to know. Can anyone assist pls?

What information are you concerned that others might know? For example, every hard drive has a serial number. Suppose I know what your hard drive's serial number is -- what possible risk is there? To use an analogy, suppose you own a car -- would it be humanly possible to know every single bit of info about that car (ie, the manufacturers inventory code numbers for the individual parts?) I'd say No, but I'd also say that it wouldn't matter.

If there is a specific security issue you are concerned with, please express it -- J.W.

Usually, the manufacturer of the motherboard has at least diagrams or photographs of the mother board layout on their web sites. You should try looking there.

I am not sure if they all put a map in the onboard ROM or not, and I do notice that manuals are sometimes hard to come by. However, check out their web site.

That is reason enough to ask.

Now let's quit asking h[im|er] why & get on w/ some constructive answers.

Here's my contribution:

Interesting Q/possibility.
I have never heard of this before & I don't think there is room for the required image file(s) in a BIOS chip.
What makes you think this might be true?
What Google or other searches have you done to find an answer on your own?
BTW, I don't think you are GBS, how about traditional "ould" spelling -- see ESR for why.

Thks on correcting my bad habits learnt by SMS'ing.

I have seen someone look at this at a web cafe and then copy it to his USB pen drive.I do not think the cafe owner had any idea.I guess this feellow must be studying it for some reason. This put the idea into my mind that I should check my computer also.

Are you sure the guy at the web cafe wasn't looking at someone's web site and downloading the map/diagram from there?

If you are looking for the motherboard diagram, a computer repair shop may also have a copy, or know where to get one.

Although I don't think any mfg of mb's supplies it... I aggree that it would be usefull if they would supply a layout of their MB map to users, however, most MB mfg's use a universal BIOS mfg and would not be practical. Therefore we are forced to use the manuals and web sites...

Yes, I do think that MB mfgs should supply infornation on the layout of their MB's in the BIOS... It's really a matter of money though, but possible...
