Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

More wireless woe with ndiswrapper, mandrake 10, wmp54g

I'm using ndiswrapper to try to get my Linksys WMP54G PCI card to work under Mandrake 10. I've seen lots of other threads about this setup but none of them seem to have my specific problem.

ndiswrapper seems to have worked as iwlist gives me this:

[root@localhost root]# iwlist scanning
wlan0 Scan completed :
          Cell 01 - Address: 00:0C:41:9D:DB:2A
                    Protocol:IEEE 802.11b
                    Quality:0/100 Signal level:-54 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm
                    Encryption key:on
                    Bit Rate:1Mb/s
(plus several more lines of available bit rates)

I assume since this scan picked up the correct ESSID from the router that the card is working so the whole ndiswrapper part of the setup is okay.

The problem is I can't get the card to connect to this network.

[root@localhost root]# iwconfig wlan0 essid evergreenterrace
does nothing. Nor does
[root@localhost root]# iwconfig wlan0 key my26characterhexkeygoeshere
(obviously with the correct key)

No matter what I've done I can't get anything from iwconfig other than
[root@localhost root]# iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:""
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462GHz Access Point: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
          Bit Rate:54Mb/s Tx-Power:16 dBm
          RTS thr:2347 B Fragment thr:2346 B
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality:100/100 Signal level:-46 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:40 Missed beacon:0
For reference, my windows setup has a static (no DHCP) IP. I don't know if that's important.

I've seen the magic that people have worked on these forums to get wireless connections working. Please do it one more time!

(Note: I've searched for a solution and haven't found one. If you think there's another thread I should read please point me to it.)
