Monitor/Video Card Setup on Sun Blade 1000/2000
Hey guys,
So I just salvaged a Sun Blade 1000 and 2000 and have decided to make it useful for web serving. Only one problem: I can't anything when I connect the monitor to it. So SPARC stations need the Sun monitors? If so, then I'm out of luck, but apparently you can get the 13W3 to VGA adapters that lets you use regular VGAs on them. This won't even be temporary for me. Once I get ssh running, all administration is through the network.
Anyways, so I tried turning it on first. Remember, you always have to close the side access before turning it on or else it won't power on. Another peculiar thing I noticed is that both these models have multiple video output. Both rigs have a Bellerophon Daughterboard that includes an ethernet port, a video card, sound, among other things. Only one came with the native 13W3 framebuffer card. It seems like these rigs has multiple monitors hooked to them. Only problem is now when I hook up a monitor on the non-13W3 ports, I get no video, is this because the video is default to the 13W3 device?
Can I take the 13W3 and will that somehow make the VGA the primary? This is my first delve into Sun workstations, so I know nothing about them. Also, in the daughterboard PCI card, I noticed a red led flashing in the back panel. What's that for. At first it seemed to me that it had something to do with diagnostics, but Sun doesn't provide good documentation for all its cards. I also got this weird case, where when I turned it on, it would be on for like 5 seconds with the Sun light coming on in the front, but then turning off soon after. I don't know what's going on, since I'm getting no monitor output.
Help Appreciated!!
