Monitor / Video Card not detected correctly in Ubuntu 7.04

Hi,

Another noobie with questions. I installed Ubuntu 7.04 and openSuse 10.2 on the same machine over the weekend. I have an nvidia graphics card and viewsonic widescreen monitor on this machine. openSuse correctly identified my monitor and graphics card, Ubuntu did not. It lists the monitor and card as generic, and will only allow 1024 x 768 screen resolution.

My questions: Is xorg.conf common to both distros? Could I compare the two and make changes to Ubuntu? Is there anywhere else I should look?

Thank You,
Charlie

Yes, xorg.conf should be identical. I suggest that you back up your Buntu xorg.conf and copy over the one from Suse to see whether it works. If it doesn't, you can simply restore the original one.
