Unhappy Monitor shutting down after X starts

I have the following problem: my Mandrake 10.0, which had been correctly (hope so ) installed and had been running well yesterday, today isn't. Strictly speaking, my monitor shuts down just after the xserver starts (and it says about "no signal", not about freq., just as if the computer was off) What suprises me most is that it worked well, I just turned off the pc yesterday...

The next strange thing: I tried using the option of configuring gfx from "summary" stage during the installation - and though I chose EXACTLY the same setting as before, the monitor also shut down (but I've installed it a couple of times, and always it was ok).

The last thing - it's ok on Mandrake 9.2, but only if I choose to use xfree 3.3.6. With 4.3 there's the same problem (but in this case, it was always so, and I used to tu use 3.3.6 instead)

The very last thing: my gfxcard is Riva TNT2 32mb, monitor works well at 1024x768@70 (though I tried many other res-freq options).

Some suggestions? At least, is there a similar option in Mandrake 10 - to use xf3.3.6?

Help, please - I've been using Linux until so recently, but already I came to love it so much...

This can be many things,

do you have a line like this in you XF86Config file?
Driver "nv"

maybe the best thing is to rerun the xonfig script 'XF86Config' I believe it is
with Xfree86 since I think Xfree 3.x and 4.x change a lot.

If this doesn't help, the file /var/log/XFree86.0.log can help
