Monitor shuts down after 40mins

Hi

This is my first post but what a great site!

My problem is with my monitor display. I run Mandrake 9.1 on a self made Athlon 500 with 64RAM, a voodoo3 PCI card and generic 800x600 56hz monitor. It's a pretty standard setup and i have never had any trouble with other early versions of Linux (Mandrake, Suse, RedHat) and indeed Md 9.1 identified these at installation.

The problem I have is after about 40mins of continuous use my monitor is thrown into standby and nothing brings it back. Even switching the monitor off and on again just leaves me with a blank screen. I don't think X crashes, just the monitor goes off. The only way is to reboot -pressing the on/off switch....not good!

I do like this version of Md and it has made me curious to look at linux more but with this monitor problem it is hard. Like I said I have never had this problem before with any other versions of Linux nor with windows98+XP.

I'm thinking it must be some configuration file somewhere thats telling the monitor togo in standby or something. I don't know.

Andrew

Check your bios and see if it has power saving features. the power saving features are a combination of hardware and software. Maybe the Mandrake default handles this option differently than your other distributions. If possible disable the bios settings.
