john,

the monitors OSD shows horizontal=91.6, and vertical=85hz.

the 'nvidia-settings' program also shows vertical of 85hz,
but xrandr shows 50hz, which suggests xrandr is wrong does it not?

ive tried using the modeline value, but it doesnt seem to work.

Yeah, if your monitor has OSD, then it will be the most correct. So, 'xrandr' is actually wrong.

unfortunately i havent been able to change the refresh rate. ill give it another try when i get the time.
