Monitor problem - please help

Yesterday, I went to a Linux install fest. Partitioned my HD, added Red Hat 9.0 and got all the latest updates.

Problem is that I didn't take my monitor (too heavy for me to move) so it was configured using a Gateway monitor. With the box hooked up at home to a Compaq Presario 1725, the display does not fill the entire screen and there is some distortion along the LH side. I went into system settings configuration and didn't find this monitor among those listed. Also, I could not get the 'Probe Monitor' button to activate. So what can I do to fix this?? I want to start using Linux but not if it looks like this!!

BTW, it did not recognize the change of monitors at boot which I thought it would. And Knoppix recognizes the monitor correctly so looks like this is a Red Hat thing.

TIA

Try either running the command:

redhat-config-xfree86

or editing your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 with the specifications of your monitor.

Of course, you could copy that file from your Knoppix to your Red Hat.

You may have these tools:

XFree86 -configure

xf86cfg
xf86config
xconf

If you need the nVidia driver, most likely, you want the Linux IA32 driver

Someone came to my rescue and provided these settings which I added to the XF86Config-4 file:

Section "Monitor"
HorizSync 31.5-64.3
VertRefresh 50-100

That worked perfectly so now all is well. I'm posting just in case someone else comes across this problem.
