Monitor Problem: no GUI will work.

Hi.
I have a probelm and i'm prettey sure it's a problem with my monitor.
When I try to run a GUI on mt laptop screen, the contrast just goes up and down a few times and then the screen goes pink and I have to change terminal.
Also when I try to run XF86Config it says permission denied even when i am loggen in as root!
Sorry I cannot be any more specific with my hardware, but I do know that my laptop was made by SiS, including the sound and graphics card, but I have a Fujitsu HDD.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Thanks

probably a driver issue. check out xfree86.org or google.com/linux for a working X config file u can use with your laptop.

also, check http://www.linux-laptop.net/

It's aight, I fixed it now.
I didn't have the right Graphics Card selected!
I had an SiS 650 selected instead of an SiS 630, which is my graphics card.
:newbie: !!!
