Monitor powermanagment only sends black screen, doesn't suspend or powerdown.

Here's my setup:
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and a Mag Innovision monitor.

I've set the monitor power management in both KDE and GNOME, but in both cases, the monitor will not suspend or powerdown. It only gets sent a black screen (the led on the front doesn't change from green to amber). I'm running Suse 9.3 Pro; is there any services other than ACPI that need to be enabled? Are there any configuration lines I need to add to xorg.conf?

Thanks,
Ryan
