monitor issues

I am currently running WIN98. I have been trying for a dual boot with mandrake 8.1 all weekend. The install is really easy, I have no problems until I get to selecting a monitor. I have a SAMSUNG SyncMaster 753df and it is not in the list. I have selected other monitors but none of them work. If I cancel out of that, I can make it as far as the login, after I log in I am stuck at a text prompt. I have entered init5 and also startX, neither work.
I also tried looking for " unlisted card " within " change my graphics card " , and had no luck finding that.
If any one out there can help me to get X working that would be awesome.
Thanks,
Ray

Try to use a Generic Monitor and then manually edit your horizonatal and vertical refresh specs for your monitor.
You you usually use xf86config to configure your monitor and manually put in the refresh rates during the setup.
