monitor installation help

I'm running Mandrake 9.0 and wanted to switch monitors from a 19" Philips 109s to a 21" KDS VS21e. I shut off the computer and made the switch thinking this was the way it was done.

However, now when I try to boot into Mandrake the system hangs on the line "Starting xinetd". I tried switching the monitors back to the original configuration but this isn't working either. Is there any way I can fix this?

i booted into it with the failsafe option and now it appears to be working, kinda funny because it froze on the first two failsafe attempts but not on the third...sweet
