Monitor doesn't get active again after some time of inactiviy

Hi, I have an elderly monitor (CTX, 19", does up to 1600 x 1200 ) that perfectly worked before I took all the hardware (i.e., the motherboard) off my computer, just before putting it in again *sigh* .

Now, the problem is, it stays black while the computer is booting. (In the moment the GNOME login manager has loaded, I can switch the monitor off and on, and it will show contents - but not before.)

The same when I lock the computer, and it is inactive then for a while. Pressing keyboard keys or shaking the mouse won't activate the monitor anymore - as well as shutting the monitor down and powering it on again, does not.

- As mentioned, I took off the hardware, and put it in again, when the problem firstly occured. I think any piece of hardware should be neatly in place again.
- I didn't do any software updates at that time.
- My graphics card is a 32 MB NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (but I don't think that's related)
- I was using an alternative monitor instead, which worked in this respect (waking up on mouse or keyboard signals, as well as when the computer boots - not only when GNOME comes in).

Is my monitor getting old? And can you see any reason for that? Is there any means to diffuse this problem?

Regards
robbbert
