modprobe usb fails

I am trying to get a lexar 128m memory stick working on SuSE 6.4.
I have loaded the following modules:
modprobe usbcore
modprobe usb-uhci

I understand that the next module to load is usb-storage, but it
always reports "init_module: Device or resource busy"

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing is wrong, but old distro release version may not support usb storage.

Try patching the kernel or rebuild the usb modules to have the support.

Else upgrade the distro.

I am having the same trouble in RH9 only thing is it does not recognize modprobe as a command

You should be root to execute modprobe. Open konsole, su, modprobe -h
