modem volume using pon
How do I turn off the modem volume during dialup when using pon?
I was able to turn it off when using ppp-go by adding an M to the AT string in the PPPscript file but it still makes loud connection sounds when using pon from GKdial.
This is my /etc/ppp/pppscript file.
TIMEOUT 60
ABORT ERROR
ABORT BUSY
ABORT "NO CARRIER"
ABORT "NO DIALTONE"
"" "AT&FH0 M0 L0"
OK "atdt8851568"

CONNECT
I added the M0 L0 commands and it turned off the modem speaker, but only when I type ppp-go at the command prompt, not when I use GKdial.
Doing everything as root with M0 L0 in the pppscript file or just M instead of M0 L0:
GKdial runs /usr/bin/pon and the modem volume is loud when it connects.
pon at the command prompt doesn't work, it wants more parameters, but pon ispname works at the command line (volume still loud). poff works at the command line.
At the command prompt ppp-go makes the connection silently.
I put /usr/sbin/ppp-go in the GKdial conneciton command window and it didn't work.
How do I make a silent connection with GKDial? Why would it be silent with ppp-go, but not with pon from GKDial?
