Modem unresponsive
I am running SUSE Pro 9.2 and trying to get an Intel 82801AA AC'97 modem attached to a CNR slot working. I've tried various settings, but nothing is working: the modem is completely unresponsive, and will not pick up. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Gareth. |
What's CNR?

I am not an expert (by any stretch of the imagination), but it's a Communications and Networking Riser (CNR). It looks a lot like a PCI slot but is coloured brown and is shorter. I'd never seen one before; it was marked on the board as CNR, so I thought I'd better research it. Does that help?

Thanks to the folks over at Linmodems my modem is starting to become responsive. However, it is still having trouble with dialing tone and finding the carrier. I wonder if anyone might have some suggestions for this.

No sorry knowing what CNR is doesn't help much! :)
I have a howto for serial modems that does also have a lot of stuff about software config and carriers etc. in Linux. If you want it (don't know if it will help since it is targeted to serial interface modems) mail me at spamnot@<removethis>polard.com |
Thanks, but I don't think that will help. I've learnt a little more about the modem: it's a Smartlink soft modem, so the driver sofware has to be spot-on to get it to do anything. CNR doesn't seem to be an issue as it works just like PCI. Has anyone had success with a Smartlink modem?
