Modem trouble

I just installed red hat 8.0 on my box and I am trying to connect to the net with a AOpen Fm56-Sv Soft pci modem but red hat won't detect it. Is this modem compatible with red hat and if so how do I install the needed software for it.

I think - though I do not actually own one, so have not actually tried this - that you can get linux drivers for the conextant chipset soft modems from this url:

And follow the links for the driver download.

To be honest though I have always used a hardware modem that plugs into the com ports, they are so much nicer for linux and not so much more expensive.
