modem recommendations?

hi, im looking to buy an ethernet modem which will connect to my 'SMC E2 Card 1211TX 10/100 Fast Ethernet Adapter'. id like to use the card both with linux and windows xp if possible (although linux is the priority). can anyone recommend a good cheap(ish) ethernet modem, which would be available to buy in the u.k? and is there anything i need to look out for?

I assume by ethernet modem you mean broadband being ether ADSL or cable. The modem will be OS independent but you need to check with the ISP or your local computer shop to see which ones are compatable with your type of service. Once you know what models work you can shop for cheapest unit

hi michael, yes i have an ADSL broadband connection.

The SMC ethernet card is supported so no problems there. I should of indicated OS independent since your using ethernet. And as previously posted it needs to be compatable with the protocol/standards that your ISP uses.
