modem problems ...

hello,

i have a sony vaio PCG-GRX616MP laptop and i am trying to install my modem on a debian (knoppix) linux system (version 2.4.19-xfs). my modem is the Conextant-Ambit SoftK56 Data,Fax ICH Modem 8086:2486

but all i do ... the modem does not work.

procinfo -f shows:

irq 0: 26498 timer
irq 1: 474 keyboard
irq 2: 0 cascade [4]
irq 3: 0 Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476
irq 4: 5
irq 5: 2
irq 7: 2
irq 8: 1 rtc
irq 9: 4213 Intel ICH3, usb-uhci
irq 10: 2
irq 11: 2
irq 12: 3 PS/2 Mouse
irq 14: 14877 ide0
irq 15: 4 ide1

on IRQ 9 is the Intel usb controller ... my modem has a similar name: Intel ICH2. maybe the usb controller catches the irq first and then the moden tries to use the same irq, but can't.
On MS Windows the modem has the IRQ 9. (Can i transfer this information to knoppix?)

how can i arrange that the modem should use an other IRQ ? Or how can i arrange the usb controller to use another IRQ ?
(I have a USB mouse, so i would disable usb at all.)

PS: I can not use 'setserial' (i read it in the FAQ for my modem)
