modem problems

Hi All:

I have a pc chips computer that I just installed Ubuntu 7.04 on. The computer has a Intel 537EP modem installed in it. I can not seem to get the modem configured to connect to the internet. I have installed the drivers again. What am I doing wrong? thanks for the help.

Do you have any output indicating an error? Are you getting a dial tone, and does the phone dial a number? Please tell in more detail how far you are getting when trying to connect, thanks!

Also do you have a dialer installed? The two popular dialers are kppp or wvdial. It will make it a lot easier.

Can you answer Larry Webb's question about which dialer you are using?

It's been a while since I used a dial-up modem, but it looks like you are using a winmodem. These can be tricky to get working in Linux, depending on how good the drivers are. So let's start with the drivers. How did you install the drivers? If you know the name of the driver, try finding it in the output of the command lsmod. If it's there we can proceed further. If not, well have to figure out why the driver is not loading.
