Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Unhappy Modem Problems

I'm using Redhat 7.3 and I am using the KDE desktop. I use KPPP to get online. Sometimes when I disconnect, then try to reconnect, I get an error:
Sending ATZ
Err

or Modem Not Responding

or Initializing Modem will just hang there

I end up having to reboot and it's a real pain.
PLEASE HELP!

I have an internal ISA modem made by best data. I forget which model. It's not a winmodem.

It might be disconnecting from the phone but not ending the process. When you disconnect and then try to connect and get that error, try to do a ps -aux and see if you see any hanging processes for it. I don't remember it ever doing that to me with this modem, I use to use a Best Data modem myself when I just only had dialup.
