modem not work

I tried with Kinternet, KPPP and Networkmanager with dialout without results. Also /usr/sbin/smpppd-icfg and 'chmod 777 /usr/sbin/pppd' and others things, ...

Kinternet returns:

Code:

SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.59 on mydesktop.
Status is: disconnected
trying to connect to smpppd
connect to smpppd
Status is: disconnected
Status is: connecting
Status is: disconnected
pppd[0] died: pppd options error (exit code 2)

Which is the device by defect for the modem? /dev/modem, /dev/ttySn or /dev/ttyACMn? (n=0-9)

Someone can tell me as to work a modem connection?

Thanks.

Is this an external or internal modem? If it is internal go to terminal and as root type "lspci" and post the results. If it is an external modem post the make and model number.

If the modem is internal, the only successful way I've had is by using modems with a Conexant chipset, then use a Linuxant driver (provides Linux drivers for Conexant chipsets).

dissident_goodchild 12-02-2007 05:52 PM

Yes, is a internal modem with Conexant chipset.

Ready. I have installed the driver from www.linuxant.com but this has payment license to enjoy FAX and full speed.

Not exist more alternatives?

hsfconfig --info:

Code:

Conexant HSF softmodem driver, version 7.68.00.04full

If you need license keys, assistance or more information, please go to:
        http://www.linuxant.com/

When reporting a problem for the first time, please send
us the file generated by "hsfconfig --dumpdiag".

Note: HDA support not compiled in the driver (requires a 2.6.16 or later kernel)

Note: kernel module snd-via82xx-modem overridden by hsfmc97via
Note: kernel module snd-intel8x0m overridden by hsfmc97ich hsfmc97sis
Note: kernel module snd-atiixp-modem overridden by hsfmc97ati

Current parameters: ("hsfconfig --info")

Config for modem unit 0: /dev/ttySHSF0
        Device instance: 0-PCI-14f1:2f00-122d:8d88
        HW revision    : Basic2 2.18 Standard DAA 3VoltsIA
        HW profile name: hsfpcibasic2hsfi

        License key    : FREE
License status : FREE (max 14.4kbps data only)
        Current region : SPAIN (T.35 code: 00A0)

The /dev/modem alias (symlink) points to ttySHSF0

To enable full 56K modem and FAX functionality, enter your license information
with "hsfconfig --license".

License owner and key data must EXACTLY match the information respectively
provided to and by Linuxant. Otherwise, license status will remain "FREE"!

solved

Full support solved, was thinking in "GPL mode" :D

Larry Webb 12-03-2007 02:14 PM

Thank you for telling us and I am glad you solved the problem

3daurora 12-03-2007 07:30 PM

At least you got your Conexant modem working. I like Linuxant, they are helping more people be able to fully transition to Linux.
As for me, I have an Agere LT Winmodem. This'll be fun.

Speaking of which, of these downloads, which one is suitable for a Kubuntu 7.10 non-64 bit OS?

3daurora you need to post to a new thread so that your question can be seen by more people. A lot of people will not look at a thread that has two or more posts because they think the person is being helped. For your modem question I would suggest that you go to Newbie forums and at the left bottom of the first page there will be a button "New Thread" and you will be able to post your own thread.
