modem not detected

I tried to connect to the internet using kppp dialer. I get the message something like 'modem not detected'.

It was working fine previously(before compiling the kernel).

I was able to connect to the internel using win98 dialup tool.

My kernel version is 2.4.18-3 and redhat 7.3 is intalled

which is the modem ?? i guess you havent compiled the suport for loadable modules in the kernel.. if u have a internal modem u need to also have support for pci devices.. try recompiling with these options..
