Hi
You can search for your modem by using kppp. From the command line, type:
kppp
This will open the kppp interface. Click on configure, and then click modem, new.
This will open up a gui for configuring your modem. An external modem is usually /dev/ttyS0, but could be assigned to another /dev/tty. You did not say whether your modem is serial or usb. If it is serial, just keep assigning it to different ttyS devices until you get a successful query where you will see the modem lights blink. For an external serial modem no driver is needed.
Hope this helps.
