Serial port 1 = /dev/ttyS0
Serial port 2 = /dev/ttyS1

Make a symbolic link for which serial port you connected it to like this:

ln -sf /dev/ttyS<N> /dev/modem

If you are using wvdial to connect, check your /etc/wvdial.conf file
Code:
[Modem0]
Modem = /dev/ttyS0
Baud = 57600
SetVolume = 0
Dial Command = ATDT
Init1 = ATZ
FlowControl = CRTSCTS
[Dialer <your connections name here>]
Phone = <your ISP phone number>
Username = <your login name>
Password = <your password>
Stupid Mode = 1
Inherits = Modem0
You can connect manually if you don't have that file if you need to.

Open an x terminal and follow this:
Code:
[phil@uilleann phil]$ su -
Password:
[root@uilleann root]# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

Found a modem on /dev/ttyS0.
/etc/wvdial.conf<Warn>: Can't read config file /etc/wvdial.conf: No such file or directory
ttyS0<Info>: Speed 115200; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0"
[root@uilleann root]#
Now, you should have a file generated at /etc/wvdial.conf. Edit that file with the proper info.
Code:
[root@uilleann root]# pico -w /etc/wvdial.conf

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttyS0
Baud = 115200
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 S11=55 +FCLASS=0
; Phone = <Target Phone Number>
; Username = <Your Login Name>
; Password = <Your Password>
Save it after editing out the semicolons and replacing the <stuff here> with your information (less the <>, of course, but you knew that). Then command
Code:
[root@uilleann root]# wvdial
and you should connect.

Then you can figure out how to use the gui tools later.
