modem giving best performance with FC5

I have FC5 and plane to buy a new modem. which modem will u suggest for best performance and why?

Any real hardware modem, because it has an UART. A hardware modem (with a UART) always works where a software based modem (without a UART) can be an issue.

I second US Robotics. They've been making modems for a long time. Make sure you don't buy a winmodem, though.

i read the data sheets of Zoom modems and others. one this that perturbs me is that every modem listed in the sheets have a range of data communication standards that it follows. what if there is a site that doesnt follow the standard? will we get an error message for that or the modem will negotiate for the best possible?

Just about everybody (99.99999%) with dialup service follows the standards. The very few that do not usually informs users of any special changes or are private.
