Modem for win and lin, and kiddie proofing

Can someone reccomend an internal modem that will work on windows and linux? Not necessarily a model (although that would help) but a type, eg serial modem.

I have windows2000 installed, and will probably be putting Mandrake 9.2 on aswell.

Also, has anyone got advice for limiting a users account so they cant do much damage? (a nine year old in this case - also the reason for this fresh installation of everything!).

Thankyou for listening!

I can't really recommend a modem, I have always used external serial modems with no problems at all but I have no experience with internal ones.

As for kiddie proofing - if you set up accounts for the kids who will use the computer they will at best be able to mess up their own setups. In Linux a regular user has no write access to system critical files and directories. If anyone messes up, simply clean out their home directory and you're done.

while we're talking about it, my modem is a on a Lucent-based chipset (now owned by Agere), anyone know where the right Linux drivers are found? asked in passing as I search ;)
