modem for JDS SuSE 8.1 linux


i know i'm a newbie....please help

am tired of trying to find drivers for coexant winwodem

please... SuSE only lists (1) creatix modem as ready for SuSE 8.1

Sun sends me to SuSE

i'm just looking for a reliable list of other choices that may be available locally

would like a PCI modem, but will settle with external

Any external serial dial out modem will work. A PCI modem may be a real modem or it may be a winmodem. If it is a real modem then it will cost about the same as an external serial modem. If a PCI modem is cheap then it will be a winmodem and may work if you can find drivers for it.

When I switched to Linux three years I fooled with my winmodem for two days. Then I bought a generic external serial dial out modem and have lived happily ever since.

i've been reading the postings....and your right...an external serial modem looks like the way to go....
