modem driver pctel hsp56 suse 9.1
I am new to the Linux OS. have recently installed SUSE 9.1 professional version. My Win Xp modem - manufacturer PCTEL (HSP 56 Micromodem) now under Conexant's domain does NOT work with SUSE. No matter which ISP I try, it keeps giving me the pop up "Modem too busy".

The PCTEL CD has some drivers for RED HAT 5 or higher.

Can anyone suggest drivers for PCTEL HSP 56 for SUSE 9.1?

Suse claims that this is beyond the basic service that they give.

Also in case there are no drivers available can you suggest an external modem compatible with SUSE 9.1?

This would be a start:

Don't buy a new one before you make sure the current can't work. But if you do buy one, prefer the pci hardmodems. Linuxes like the hard ones. I had a usr 2977 pci hardmodem that rocked.

you must erase the sound modules, in linux, pctel and sound dont like each other
try this and your modem will work
lsmod | grep snd

every module what contains that three characters "snd" must be erased with the commando rmmod

good luck
