Question modem

I am using a us robotics pro modem-it can be used by other linux systems (vector, red hat) and shows up at port 5 under these other distributions. It is in a PCI slot, slackware does detect it (with demesg |less ) but port 5 is not one that can be used under Slackware 8. Is there a fix for this? ie do I need to alter a file, or download a file from the main site. The main board is a Soyo pentium 4 with on board sound.

well,
the ports which the modem'll show was depence on which slot did u put it in.
If u just want the modem's port to be 5th, then just put it in slot 5.
But if it work in your system, i wouldn't change it to 5th slot.

Thumbs up modem

I've found more info on the USR 56K Performance Pro Modem-if you can set your systems modem to port 5 (PCI Modem only) and set up the symlink to this device, it will work in Linux. I have used Slackware 8 with this device. Setserial is the tool that is needed.
