Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Modem

Hi, I really want to be able to connect my linux machine (currently redhat 7.2) to the internet, which right now would mean through dial up, but unfortunately redhat thinks the modem I have is a soundcard and is not installing it properly. I was wondering if anyone knew of some linux compatable modems and where I might be able to get them for hopefully not too much $$$. Thank you for your time.

An old serial (external) modem is your best bet.

Any brands in particular? Or models? I really just want to get something that I know will work for sure.

Best Data makes some decent internal hardware modems that are easier than saying "linux" to get working..
