Mobo hardware question

Alright well this is kinda a Non-*nix based question. Its just really a mother board question. I have a Soyo Kt 880 Dragon v2.0 and my secondary ide isn't workin right. Not sure if its just some mother board problem or if i just need to update the bios and really cause i have never flashed my bios on any mobo i am kinda scared cause i don't have the funds to buy a new mobo so if any one has any answers or maybe even if a website that would be awesome.

There is a secondary BIOS on your secondary IDE chip. It is very common to have compatibility problems between your motherboard BIOS and your secondary IDE BIOS. So to explore the problem further I have some questions.

1. Is your secondary IDE chipset on the motherboard or on a PCI card?

2. What disks do you have attached to what controller? Could you give your configuration, something like:
/dev/hda - Maxtor hd
/dev/hdd - Sony CD
/dev/hde - Seagate hd

3. When you boot do you get messages on your screen from the secondary IDE BIOS? If so, what are the messages?

4. Check your BIOS settings and see what IDE ports the BIOS knows about. It doesn't necessarily have to know about the secondary IDE ports in advance. It can discover the secondary IDE BIOS dynamically during boot.

5. What symptoms do you get that the secondary IDE isn't working right?
